WinemakingAt Whitehaven, we pride ourselves on the exclusive use of iconic Marlborough grapes in all of our wines, a policy that ensures we deliver truly authentic Marlborough flavors in each bottle.
Marlborough is the heartland of New Zealand winemaking and is widely recognized as one of the world’s iconic grape growing regions. Long, sunny days and a relatively cool climate translate to an extended growing season, resulting in intense flavor characteristics. A large diurnal swing and differentiated sandy soils that run in east-west bands create a wide diversity of flavors, lending to the unique characteristics of Marlborough grapes: vibrant tropical flavors with a crisp and herbaceous edge.
Famed for its stunning green scenery, our isolated location and temperate climate provides ideal growing conditions that we plan to preserve through our sustainability efforts and role as an active member of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ).
Our winemaking philosophy is centered on the pursuit of quality without compromise. Led by Winemaker Sam Smail, our team fuses New World techniques and Old World craftsmanship to craft wines that deliver an enviable mix of quality, intense flavors and consistency, all with an elegant edge.
Every vintage, we make Sauvignon Blanc wines that offer bright tropical fruit flavors and lively acidity that reflect the stunning natural beauty of Marlborough.
